New Los Angeles map with Ma-non Ship by Flanqer
New Los Angeles map with Ma-non Ship
This is a map of New Los Angeles (NLA), including the Ma-non Ship, from Xenoblade Chronicles X. I created it by cropping and merging a bunch of screenshots of the gamepad screen at maximum zoom to get maps of each district, then combined them into a map of the full city. I outlined the Ma-non Ship to make it easier to see what's part of the ship and what isn't.

When I merged the district maps, I discovered that the hex grids don't line up. Apparently the developers added the hex grid to each district separately and didn't worry about alignment at district boundaries. It doesn't affect gameplay since the game never shows the hexes of more than one district at once, but it's a little annoying for us mapmakers. Oh, well.

The Sports Complex in the Residential has tennis courts, which presumably are regulation size, so I used them to calculate the scale of the map. They're too small on the map for an accurate measurement, so I first used an aerial cam screenshot to make some more precise measurements and calculate the distance between the adjacent streets. I then measured the same distance on the city map and calculated the scale.

The scale came out to almost exactly 3200 pixels = 1 mile, so I added a square coordinate grid divided into tenths and fiftieths of a mile, measured from the center of the city. NLA's diameter at the outside walls is about 1.08 miles or 1900 yards.

Map of Mira by Flanqer
Map of Mira
This is a map of the planet Mira from Xenoblade Chronicles X. I created it by cropping and merging a bunch of screenshots of the gamepad screen at maximum zoom to get maps of each region/continent, then combined them into a map of the full planet.

When I merged the region maps, I discovered that the hex grids don't line up. Apparently the developers added the hex grid to each district separately and didn't worry about alignment at region boundaries. It doesn't affect gameplay, but it's a little annoying for us mapmakers. Oh, well.

Most of the region maps overlap the adjacent regions enough to make alignment easy. The only problem was between Primordia and Sylvalum: neither map shows all of the islands between them, so I had to rely on a Mira map that had been posted by Nintendo. I scaled it up to match my maps, used it to align the two regions (and confirm that the other regions were correctly aligned), and fill in the rest of that chain of islands.

A bunch of the small, isolated islands and the Lifehold Core don't show up on any region maps, so I had to estimate their positions using the "you are here" marker on the gamepad's map of Mira; this wasn't very precise due to the small map and the large marker, but it's good enough to allow players to find the islands. I used screenshots of the game's minimap to make maps of each and scaled them down to match the scale of the Mira map. They're pretty small at that scale, so I added closeup insets at 3.5 times scale to show more detail, except for the Lifehold Core which is large enough to be visible.

I also did a separate map of NLA for which I was able to calculate the scale (see my NLA map for details). This allowed me to measure NLA's diameter and use it to calculate the scale of this map. It worked out to 345 pixels = 1 mile, so I added a square coordinate grid divided into miles and fifths of a mile, measured from the center of NLA.

The entire map of Mira is about 13 miles wide by 13 miles high. Of course this is just the visual scale—how large everything appears to be compared to the size of the people. Like many RPGs, the game's clock runs faster than real time, so the planet will seem 60 times bigger if you judge it by how many "hours" it takes to run somewhere.

Saw your maps and I was wondering. Do you have any idea where to find a Crucian Carp? I've looked all kinds of guides and none of them have that info.

I was trying to keep track of where I caught each type of fish for a while. I didn't keep at it long enough to write a complete fishing FAQ (fishing is soooo slow and boring), but I can at least list some of the places where each fish can be found.

You can catch Crucian Carp...

* On Fenith Island in the ponds by the Bathhouse, Blacksmith Shop, and Church Plaza, and in the waterfall pool at Fenith Port.
* In the streams on Spring Island and Verde Island.
* In the pond in the middle of Desert Island.
